The Australian Perth Mint released the first coin in its third Lunar Year Series - the Year of the Mouse / Rat coin, in January 2020. This release coincided with the start of the Year of the Rat in the Chinese Lunar Cycle. Bullion Exchanges has joined the celebration by offering the 2020 1 oz Silver Lunar Year of The Mouse / Rat coin with a special Dragon Privy! This 1 troy ounce coin contains .9999 fine silver, enticing investors looking to expand their coin collection diversity. Notably, PCGS graded this special Dragon Privy coin a perfect MS 70, with a “First Day of Issue” designation. This denotes the coin was received for grading within the first days of its release. This designation greatly enhances the collector appeal of any coin, especially one with a limited mintage. Along those lines, this Bullion Exchanges Exclusive Mouse Coin only has a limited mintage of 30,000, with much fewer graded MS 70, so buy one before they scurry off the shelves!
Each one of the 12 years in the Chinese Lunar Cycle is represented by a different animal from Chinese tradition. Those born during a specific Lunar year are said to embody the traits of their assigned zodiac animal. Those born under the sign of the Rat / Mouse (which include years 1972, 1984, 1996, and 2008) are apt to be industrious, determined, and positive. Another zodiac animal, the Dragon, acts as a symbol of fortitude, power, and prosperity. Giving your loved one a gift depicting a dragon is believed to bring them luck in the future.
The obverse of the coin shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Jody Clark. The Queens wears her royal crown and elegant jewelry. Inscriptions include the coin’s country of origin, the Queen’s name, as well as the purity, weight, and denomination of the coin. The reverse presents two mice foraging for food on corn husks. The Dragon Privy is inscribed on the right side of the coin, right above the Perth Mint mintmark. The Chinese character for “Mouse” appears above the privy, as well as the year of mintage.
