For 2020, the Perth Mint is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Australian silver kookaburra series with the commemorative 2020 1 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra Perth Mint PCGS MS 70 FDOI. Originally minted in 1990, the Australian silver kookaburra series is famous for releasing a new coin design every year. Now, for the anniversary, Perth Mint is releasing a special engraving that calls back to the 1990 original.

Like the 1990 kookaburra silver coin design by artist Stuart Devlin, this coin’s obverse displays the native bird sitting on a tree stump as local foliage sways behind it. The Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is engraved alongside the design, as well as the denomination, the Queen’s name, and “AUSTRALIA”.

Meanwhile, the coin’s reverse features a completely original design made especially for the anniversary. Here, a laughing kookaburra looks upward to the sky as the Australian sun rises behind it. Also displayed on the reverse are the weight, the purity, and the phrases “AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA” and “30TH ANNIVERSARY”.

Minted from 1 oz of .999 fine silver, this coin is graded by PCGS as MS 70 FDOI. MS 70 is the highest grade PCGS offers, and FDOI indicates that this coin was minted on the first day of issue.
