Originally minted in 1990, this series is famous for introducing a new design every year. Now, the Perth Mint is paying homage to the very first design of the coin with a special anniversary edition.

Taking inspiration from the 1990 kookaburra silver coin design by Australian artist Stuart Devlin, this coin’s obverse features the adorable bird rested on a tree stump as leaves and tree branches fall behind it. Alongside the design is the Jody Clark bust of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the denomination, the Queen’s name, and “Australia.”

On the coin’s reverse is a brand-new design that brings the 1990 kookaburra silver coin to the 21st century. Here, a kookaburra sits on top of a tin roof while letting out its signature laugh, as a dynamic sunrise bathes it in light. The design is accompanied by the coin’s weight and purity, as well as the phrases “AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA” and “30TH ANNIVERSARY” engraved around the rim.

Marked as first strike and PCGS MS 69, this 1 oz 2020 Silver Kookaburra coin is a high-quality addition to any collection.
