The newest release from the Perth Mint's Silver Kookaburra coin series is now available for purchase from Bullion Exchanges! This impressive 2020 1 Kilo Silver Australian Kookaburra Coin, a special anniversary release, celebrates 30 years since the inauguration of the Australian Kookaburra Series in 1990.
This 1-kilo coin contains .9999 pure silver and is one of the three variations available for the silver kookaburra coins released in 2020. The other two denominations for this coin are 1 oz and 10 oz. These Perth Mint Silver Coins have a face value of $30 and are legal Australian tender. For consumer protection, the Perth Mint has inscribed an extra layer of security to this coin with a special micro-engraved letter on its reverse. The letter is so small it is only visible with a magnifying glass.
Kookaburra birds, classified under the kingfisher species, are unique to Australia and New Guinea. There are four species of the kookaburra, but the laughing kookaburra is the most famous. This is because of its recognizable cry, which is frequently used as a sound effect in movies and television shows.
Because the 2020 silver kookaburra coin marks the 30th anniversary of the series, its obverse features a special callback to the original 1990 design. Initially conceived by Stuart Devlin in 1990, this lovely image showcases a content kookaburra sitting calmly on a stump amid beautiful foliage. A small version of the famous Queen Elizabeth II design by engraver Jody Clark also appears close to the top of the coin. Along the rim of the coin are the denomination, the Queen’s name, and “Australia.”
