The obverse displays a majestic image of the Mexican Coat of Arms. A golden eagle sits upon a prickly pear cactus while holding a snake in its beak and talon. The image is located inside a circular design-- the top half says "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" and an olive and oak wreath composes the bottom half of the circle.

The reverse touts an image of the "El Ángel" or Angel of Independence, built-in 1910 to celebrate the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence. Victory, the Roman goddess, holds a laurel wreath in her outstretched hand (signifying victory). She holds a broken chain in her other hand, depicting freedom. A backdrop of the Mexican landscape features its two most famous volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
