The obverse showcases the Mexican Coat of Arms, with an eagle grasping a snake in its beak and talon. The image is surrounded by the words "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" above and an olive and oak wreath below.
The reverse displays a depiction of the "El Ángel", or Angel of Independence, a monument built in 1910 to celebrate the beginning of Mexico's War of Independence. Victoria, the Roman goddess of victory, holds a laurel wreath of victory in her outstretched hand. Her other hand holds a broken chain, which symbolizes freedom. The background displays two of Mexico’s most iconic volcanoes, Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
