The 2019 S Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Proof Half Dollar 2 Coin Set is a special commemorative coin set issued by the United States Mint to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969. This set includes two half-dollar coins, both of which are made of 8.33% nickel and balance copper.
The obverse features phases of the moon surrounding "MERCURY," "GEMINI" and "APOLLO." Inside this circle, you'll find the footprint on the lunar surface. The reverse displays a close-up of the famous photograph of Buzz Aldrin on the moon. It shows a sliver of his helmet and visor with it reflecting an image of astronaut Neil Armstrong, the lunar landing, and the United States flag. You'll also find the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "HALF DOLLAR."
The second features a bust of John F. Kennedy along with the phrase "LIBERTY' and the year of mintage. The reverse displays the US Seal along with the denomination.
The set comes with a certificate of authenticity (COA) from the United States Mint and is presented in a protective display case. Both coins in the set were minted at the San Francisco Mint and are marked with the "S" mint mark. This commemorative coin set is a limited edition with a maximum mintage of 100,000 sets.
