The reverse displays a beautiful image of a mother koala with a baby on its back. The koala coin celebrates the rich heritage Australia’s beloved marsupial. This side was designed by the Perth Mint designer Aleysha Howarth. The obverse features the profile portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley.
The coin is minted as a piedfort. The term borrows from the French word which translates as “strong foot.” The coin is a piedfort because of its unique weight and metal content as well as the thickness of it. The 2 oz. Silver Koala measures to a thickness of 6.42 millimeters and was struck of .9999 fine silver.
