The Royal Australian Mint presents the new release of its outstanding Lunar series - 2018 1 oz Gold Lunar Year of the Dog Coin. This series is based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar, which is a 12-year cycle with each year honoring a particular animal. Following the concept of other international mints, RAM released its own Gold Lunar series in 2007 with the Year of Pig Gold Coin. This Royal Australian Mint Lunar series is exclusively distributed by PAMP.

The reverse design changes annually, the coin’s obverse always features a profile portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The queen portrait is surrounded by tiny images of all 12 animals of the zodiac along with the moon phases forming a border pattern. In 2018, the coin’s obverse depicts a highly detailed image of two dogs of the beagle breed and the Chinese character for “Dog”. Chinese Dog symbol and people born in this year have great qualities such as loyalty, intelligence, and diligence.
