This series has been minted since 1989 to honor the Viennese Philharmonic Orchestra, which is considered to be one of the most famous in the world.
The obverse of this stunning coin features the Great Organ in one of Austria’s most famous concert halls, the Golden Hall, the concert hall where the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra plays its music. The reverse showcases an array of orchestral instruments, including a french horn, bassoon, harp, cello, and four violins, created by Thomas Pesendorfer.
The Philharmonic coins are highly popular bullion available in Gold, Silver, and Platinum. The Gold Philharmonic coin was the first in this series, released on October 10, 1989. The 1 oz gold coin was made from .9999 fine gold with a face value of 2,000 Austrian schillings. The coin originally had Austrian Schilling denominations between 1989 and 2001.
