Ukrainian Archangel Michael coins are produced on an annual basis by the National Bank of Ukraine. Firstly introduced in 2011, this coin has been minted in both options: silver and gold, and feature the same design on the obverse and reverse each year.
Later on, the National Bank of Ukraine has expanded the gold platform to include a ½ oz and 1/10 oz coin. Debuting in 2012, these latter two fractional weights were initially quite popular. In recent years, however, the ¼ oz has clawed its way back to the top as the most popular weight in the gold version. This amazing coin contains 1 troy ounce and is made from .9999 pure silver.
On the obverse of this coin is the image of Saint Michael. This individual isn't a saint, but rather an angel, and the leader of all angels and of the army of God. This is what the title "Archangel" means, that he is above all the others in rank. Michael was mentioned three times in the Book of Daniel, the idea that Archangel Michael was the advocate of the Jews became so prevalent that in spite of the rabbinical prohibition against appealing to angels as a connection between God and his People. The archangel Michael has been depicted in many different ways throughout the course of Western civilization.
The reverse side of the Ukrainian Silver Archangel Michael Coin includes the national Coat of Arms of the Ukraine and National Bank of Ukraine emblem, known as “Academy’s logo”. In the center of the emblem is the Hryvnia (large silver ingot or bar which served as a monetary unit in the ancient Kievan Rus), On both sides of the logo, there are Griffins-mythical winged creatures with the body of a lion, who were supposed to find and protect treasure. Also, this side includes engravings “National Bank of Ukraine” in Ukrainian.
Located in the national capital city-Kiev, the National bank of Ukraine was formed in 1992 after the separation of the states within the Soviet Union. The bank today serves the independent Ukrainian government in the production of paper currency and coinage for circulation, as well as commemorative precious metals.
