Late at night, the PT-109 was crushed by a Japanese destroyer. For two days Kennedy’s crew stayed on a small unoccupied island and looked for a way back. Fortunately, they were found by the native Coastwatchers, who helped them send a message to the base, thus the crew and future President of the United States were rescued. Most of Americans were amazed by the amazing bravery of JFK and believed that was the foundation of his well-known leadership.
