2017 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin BU

This wonderful 2017 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin BU is the newest release in the iconic Philharmonic series produced by the Austrian Mint - one of the best-selling bullion coins. This stunning coin is made from 1 oz. of .9999 fine gold, and its name and design honor the famous Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, making it a classical addition to any coin portfolio.

The first Gold Philharmonic Coin was issued in 1989, October 10, being struck in two sizes of 1 oz. and ¼ oz. of .9999 pure gold and carrying 2,000 and 500 ATS (Austrian Schillings) face values. The 1/10 oz. and ½ oz. options were introduced in 1991 and, respectively, in 1994. The denomination currency was changed to EUR later in 2002 when the euro currency was adopted. The 20 oz. gold coin was released in 2009 to celebrate 20 years of coin’s mintage. In 2014, the Austrian Mint also issued a 1/25 oz. Gold Philharmonic Coin to celebrate its 25th anniversary which was established as a permanent size. The Philharmonics are also available in silver and platinum versions and have been named the best-selling coins in the world for several years. It’s the only European bullion coin with a denomination established in euros, but it’s legal tender only in Austria.

For the 15th anniversary of the coin, in 2004, the mint created a huge, stunning 1,000 oz. gold coin, nicknamed “Big Phil”, having a face value of 100,000 EUR, being the largest coin up until 2007, when the Royal Canadian Mint issued its $1,000,000 CAD. Only 15 “Big Phils” have been produced by the mint and one of them is displayed in the Pro Aurum headquarter in Munich. This iconic coin is highly desired by investors and collectors all over the world due to its iconic Wiener Philharmoniker design that stays the same for each coin issue.
