This 1 oz. .999 pure silver medal is a sensational release of the renowned US Mint. Reproducing the 2015 design of the American Liberty High Relief remarkable gold coin, the 2016-W Silver Proof American Liberty Medal is produced with smooth edges in limited editions, being the first commemorative medal struck by the United States Mint since 2011.
The last commemorative medals introduced by the US Mint, excluding the Presidential medal issues, were released in 2011 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Similar to the 9/11 medals, the Liberty silver rounds will be issued in two options: one produced at the West Point facility and another at San Francisco. These fantastic silver proof medals are produced on the 1 troy ounce .999 fine silver planchets used for Silver American Eagle Coins but reproduce the head and tail design of the 2015 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin (except for the coin engravings). These beautiful gold medals were the first ones in the last 70 years carrying a changed design depicting Lady Liberty as a modern woman. Yet, the 2016 silver medal replicas don’t have face values and are not legal tender. - Reverse: Depicts a stunning image of the American bald eagle, engraved as rising in flight and holding an olive branch in its talons - symbolizing freedom. The image was created by the designer Paul C. Balan, and was sculpted by Donald Everhart II. Their initials (PCB and DE) are also struck on the reverse side, followed by the “United States of America” inscription and the “S” mintmark.
