To mark the 20th anniversary of the American Gold Eagles and American Silver Eagleswhich were first minted in 1986, a new line of coins were minted by U.S. Mint in 2006. They are the Burnished American Gold and Silver coins. Burnishing is a special process which produces smooth matte-finished coins in comparison to the bullion coins which have a more shiny appearance. All of the Burnished American Eagle Gold coins and Silver Eagles have a “W” mint mark which stands for the West Point Mint where they were produced.
Coin Features:
- Contains 1 oz gold with a purity of 0.9167
- Obverse – An Augusts Saint-Gaudens’ design of Lady Liberty striding forward holding a torch in right hand and olive branch in left on a background of rising sun and Capitol building. 2016 is the mintage year.
- Reverse – A Miley Busiek’s design of a male eagle holding olive branch flying towards his nest containing a female eagle with her hatchlings
- Eligible for IRA Accounts.
- "W" mint mark for its production in West Point Mint.
- Coin is lodged in a capsule in the Original Mint Box with a certificate of authentication.
