2016 Great Britain 1 oz Gold Britannia Coin BU
Britannia coins are British bullion coins issued by the Royal Mint in gold since 1987. Britannia gold coins contain one troy ounce of gold and have a face value of £100. Gold Britannias also are issued in fractional sizes of one-half, one-quarter, and one-tenth of a troy ounce and with face values of £50, £25, and £10 respectively. In 2013 two additional sizes were introduced, a five ounce coin of face value £500, and a fractional size of one-twentieth of face value £5.
2016 1 oz Gold Britannia coins are one of the most beautiful in the world. 2013 was the year when the coin's fineness was changed to .9999 gold, while the prior years were struck in .917 pure gold. The obverse side of the coin contains the life-like bust of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, along with the coin's denomination. The reverse features Lady Britannia, along with the inscriptions "ONE OUNCE FINE GOLD," "BRITANNIA," and the coin's date of issue.
