The Perth Mint has released the highly anticipated 2016 10 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra Coin, which is available for purchase, and immediate shipping. Each coin is composed of 10 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, and has been issued a face value of $10 by the Australian government. The Silver Australian Kookaburra has been around since 1990 and is beloved by investors and correctors alike for its continually changing reverse design.
The laughing kookaburra is well known both as a symbol of Australia’s birdlife and for its laughter like call. Native to the eucalyptus forests of eastern Australia, the laughing kookaburra is the largest member of the Kingfisher family and is a carnivorous bird.
The 2016 10 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra Coin does not have a restricted mintage. Each coin is packaged in an acrylic Perth Mint capsule, and is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
The reverse side features a kookaburra perched on a barbed wire wooden post, with “AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA”, and “2016 10 OZ 999 SILVER” inscribed on the rim of the coin.
The obverse side of the 2016 10 oz Silver Australian Kookaburra Coin features the iconic effigy of her majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. The obverse side also features the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA”, and “10 DOLLARS” along the rim of the coin.
