2016 1 oz Silver American Eagle $1 Coin BU
2016 marks the 30th anniversary of the American Silver Eagle bullion coin program which was first established in 1986. Each 2016 American Silver Eagle Coin is composed of 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, tipping the scales at 31.10 grams. The 2016 1 oz Silver American Eagle Coin is legal-tender bullion of the United States Mint and is eligible for use in Precious Metals IRA accounts.
The design of this iconic coin was taken from the “Walking Liberty” illustration created by sculptor-engraver Adolph A. Weinman which had initially been utilized for the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. The prized design quickly became a favorite and decades later was restored to be used on the obverse side of this American Eagle Coin. The design features Lady Liberty moving toward the sunlight while carrying a laurel oak in her hand, symbolizing our country's strength. She is enveloped by stars and stripes, with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST”, and “LIBERTY” completing the design.
The reverse side features a design by American sculptor-engraver John M. Mercanti, portraying a heraldic eagle with a shield holding olive branches in its right talon, and arrows in its left. Above the eagle are the 13 point stars commemorating the 13 colonies. Inscribed on the rim of the coin are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, and “1 OZ, FINE SILVER ONE DOLLAR”. E PLURIBUS UNIM can be found in the banner in the eagle’s beak.
