The coin is meticulously struck in .999 fine silver. The reverse of the coin features an adult and baby monkey sitting on a peach tree branch with the Chinese character for 'Monkey' on the top, and the inscription 'Year of the Monkey' on the bottom. The obverse shows Ian Rank-Broadley's effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, denomination, fineness, weight and the year of issue.
