This 2014 Gold Panda Medal is the product of a cooperative effort between China and the Smithsonian Institution. This amazing medal was struck in 2014 to honor the presence of giant pandas in the National Zoo, located in Washington D.C. Giant pandas have been kept at the National Zoo since 1972 and the design of this medal features two, who live there today. The medal weighs 5 oz. and is made from .999 fine gold. Additionally, it has very low mintage, limited to just 100 pieces worldwide.

The China Gold Panda Medal reverse has a design of two giant pandas who currently live at the National Zoo, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian. The pandas are seen relaxing and eating bamboo. Both of these giant panda designs are very detailed. Above and below this scene is a border made of bamboo shoots. The design on the obverse symbolizes the cooperative effort that produced this medal. Both the Great Wall of China and the Smithsonian Castle can be seen here. 

The medal received the NGC grade of GEM Proof, which means it looks like it just left the mint.
