This 1/10 oz China Smithsonian Proof Gold Panda Tian Tian Medal was struck in 2014 to honor the presence of giant pandas in National Zoo, Washington D.C. Giant pandas have been kept at the National Zoo since 1972 and the design of this medal features one of two Pandas living there today.
The Chinese government was certainly involved with this commemorative design and creation, but so was the Smithsonian Institution, which was placed on the medal obverse. This commemorative medal contains 1/10 oz. of .999 fine gold and has a limited mintage of 25,000 pieces only.
This Smithsonian Gold Panda Medal has been graded by the NGC. Based on the 70 point grading scale used by the NGC, this medal received the grade of PF70, that means the medal is flawless, even when viewed under magnification.
