Detailed Information:

The National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center Commemorative Coin Act (Public Law 110-357) of October 8, 2008 has authorized the Secretary of Treasury to mint and issue up to 350,000 of the 2012 Infantry Soldier $1 Silver Commemorative Coin. These coins are released to honor the legacy of the U.S. Army Infantry and commemorate the establishment of the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center, which is located in Columbus, Georgia. The Museum is well-known for its history, artifacts, and interactive multimedia exhibits which are all related to the US Army Infantry.

The design of the coin is required to be emblematic of these values; loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage, all of which are known values of infantrymen. The US Treasury Secretary consulted the panel of National Infantry Foundation members and the Commission of Fine Arts to review the designs along with Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee and they chose Joel Iskowitz, a master designer of the Artistic Infusion Program (AIP).

The obverse features a modern day infantry soldier with his basic weapon, the rifle, charging forward on rocky grounds while beckoning his troops to follow which symbolizes the “Follow Me” motto of Infantry. The design was engraved by Sculptor-Engraver Michael Gaudioso.

The reverse features the universally recognized insignia of the US Army Infantry “two crossed muskets,” which are vintage 1795 Springfield muskets. The designer of reverse was AIP Associate Designer Ronald D. Sanders and it was engraved by Sculptor-Engraver Norman E. Nemeth.

The coin is made of 90% silver and 10% copper as well as being  minted in both Proof and Uncirculated versions. The Proof coins are all minted at the West Point Mint and bears the “W” mint mark.

Add a flavor of patriotism to your investment portfolio with this amazing coin.
