The American Eagle Series debuted in 1986. This is the first official bullion coin program for the US since overturning former President FDR's mandate against private ownership of precious metals in 1933. Inscriptions include "LIBERTY" and the year of mintage.
The reverse displays the US heraldic bald eagle underneath 13 stars. The eagle clutches arrows and an olive branch in its talons. On its chest is a shield emblazoned with the US Flag. Inscriptions include the weight and denomination of the coin.
