Built by the Maya people of the Terminal Classic period, Chichén Itzá is a complex of Mayan ruins of a large pre-Columbian city on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. The Observatory in Chichen Itza, also known as El Caracol, is a round structure where the Mayans watched and studied the trajectory of Venus.
