2010 W 1/2 oz $10 First Spouse - Abigail Fillmore Gold Uncirculated Coin (w/Box & COA)

This First Spouse gold coin comes encapsulated in a box with a certificate of authentication.

In 2007, the United States Mint released the first four coins in a series of Gold First Spouse Coins. These coins are the government's first 1/2 oz .9999 fine Gold coins and are also the first commemorative 1/2 oz Gold coins. With a face value of $10, these Gold coins are minted and released annually in the order the First Ladies served in the White House. Each First Spouse Gold Coin will coincide with the release of the four annual Presidential $1 Coins. The United States Mint certifies that this coin is a genuine coin, struck in accordance with legislation passed by Congress and signed by the President on December 22, 2005 (Public Law 109-145). This coin was produced by the Department of the Treasury, United States Mint. This coin is a legal tender of the United States.

The obverse of the First Spouse Gold coin features a portrait of the First Lady with an inscription of their name, presidential order, and years of their term as the first spouse, along with the year of minting. The reverse highlights a unique image emblematic of that spouse's life and work. In the few cases when a president served without a spouse, a Gold coin is issued bearing an image of Liberty, while the reverse shows an image depicting the president's life.

This beautiful 2007 uncirculated coin portrays Abigail Fillmore, First Lady to Millard Fillmore. Born in Saratoga County, NY in 1798, Abigail developed a love for learning at a young age and began working as a teacher at age 16. She later met Millard Fillmore while teaching at the New Hope Academy, and the two married in 1826. She was by his side while he became Congressman, then state comptroller, and finally Vice President to Zachary Taylor, before the President's death made Fillmore the President and Abigail the First Lady. Throughout her time in the White House, she continued to read and preferred private life rather than the social one.

The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Abigail Fillmore. Above the portrait depicts her name, "ABIGAIL FILLMORE" and below the portrait depicts the presidency in which Millard Fillmore was in the term, "13th 1850-1853". The right side of the portrait has the inscription "LIBERTY; 2010 W", and the left side has the inscription " IN GOD WE TRUST". The reverse side is related to Mrs. Fillmore's work of establishing a permanent White House library, the funds for which were appropriated by Congress. In this library, she enjoyed entertaining guests such as Washington Irving and Charles Dickens. The reverse design shows Mrs. Fillmore shelving books in her new library. Circling the rim on the reverse side are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "$10", and "1/2 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD."

Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. It will be wrapped and packaged safely for delivery.
