Celebrate a special piece of numismatic history with the 2008-W 1 oz Burnished Silver American Eagle $1 Coin, available now at Bullion Exchanges. Struck at the West Point Mint, this collectible coin is crafted from 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver and features a distinctive burnished finish—a soft, matte-like texture achieved through a special minting process. The coin comes complete with its original U.S. Mint box and Certificate of Authenticity (COA), making it an ideal addition to any serious American Silver Eagle collection.
The Burnished Silver Eagle series began in 2006 as part of the U.S. Mint's 20th Anniversary celebration of the American Eagle bullion program. These coins differ from their brilliant uncirculated counterparts by being struck on specially prepared planchets and bearing the “W” mintmark to signify their origin at the West Point facility. The 2008 issue was the final release before a temporary halt in burnished production in 2009 due to high bullion demand during the financial crisis, making this year’s release even more historically significant for collectors.
Designed by Adolph A. Weinman, the obverse of the coin features the timeless "Walking Liberty" design originally used on the half dollar from 1916–1947. The reverse, designed by John Mercanti, showcases a heraldic eagle with a shield, 13 stars representing the original colonies, and inscriptions denoting the coin’s weight and purity. This design remained in use until 2021, when the U.S. Mint introduced a new eagle design.
