The 2008 issue of the Olympic Maple Leaf Gold coins is the first in a three-year series dedicated to the 2010 Winter Olympics, hosted by Canada. The second coin was released in 2009 and the last in 2010, the year that the Winter Olympic Games were held in Vancouver. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin is made of one ounce of 99.99% pure gold and bears a $50 face value.
The reverse side on this coin shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt, in profile facing right. The date, denomination and "ELIZABETH II" also appear.
