2007 W 1/2 oz $10 First Spouse - Dolley Madison Gold Coin NGC PF 69 Ultra Cameo

This beautiful First Spouse coin is graded by NGC as PF 69 Ultra Cameo: a proof coin with a sharp strike with full original luster, with no more than two small non-detracting contact marks or flaws. In 2007, the United States Mint released the first four coins in a series of Gold First Spouse Coins. These coins are the government's first 1/2 oz .9999 fine Gold coins and are also the first commemorative 1/2 oz Gold coins. With a face value of $10, these Gold coins are minted and released annually in the order the First Ladies served in the White House. Each First Spouse Gold Coin will coincide with the release of the four annual Presidential $1 Coins. The United States Mint certifies that this coin is a genuine coin, struck in accordance with legislation passed by Congress and signed by the President on December 22, 2005 (Public Law 109-145). This coin was produced by the Department of the Treasury, United States Mint. This coin is legal tender of the United States.

The obverse of the First Spouse Gold coin features a portrait of the First Lady with an inscription of their name, presidential order, and years of their term as the first spouse, along with the year of minting. The reverse highlights a unique image emblematic of that spouse's life and work. In the few cases when a president served without a spouse, a Gold coin is issued bearing an image of Liberty, while the reverse shows an image depicting the president's life.

This beautiful 2007 uncirculated coin portrays Dolley Madison, First Lady to James Madison, and one of the most charming and entertaining First Ladies of her era. Born in North Carolina in 1768, Dolley was raised in Philadelphia as a Quaker. Dolley met Representative James Madison as a widow, and they were married in 1794. Madison, co-author of the Federalist essays and often called the "Father of the Constitution", served as Secretary of State before being elected President, entering the White House with Dolly as his First Lady.

The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Dolley Madison. Above the portrait depicts her name, "Dolley Madison" and below the portrait depicts the presidency in which James Madison was in the term, "4th 1809-1817". The right side of the portrait has the inscription "LIBERTY; 2007 W", and the left side has the inscription " IN GOD WE TRUST". The reverse side portrays Mrs. Madison's act of unmatched patriotism in advance of British troop arrival during the War of 1812, when while being forced to flee the White House Dolley Madison managed to save the Cabinet papers and the beautiful Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington, which was hanging in the State Dining Room at the time. Circling the rim on the reverse side are the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "$10", and "1/2 OZ. .9999 Fine gold."

Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. It will be wrapped and packaged safely for delivery.
