The American Eagle gold bullion coins contain 1 oz. of gold, with a fineness of .9167. The American Gold Eagle is an official gold bullion coin of the United States. Since 1986, the Gold American Eagle has been America's preferred Gold coin, with a classic, beloved design guaranteed by the U.S. Mint.
The obverse features a modified rendition of the Augustus Saint-Gaudens design used on U.S. twenty-dollar gold pieces from 1907 until 1933 of a full length figure of Lady Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, with the Capitol building in the left background. The reverse displays a "family of eagles" motif designed by sculptor Miley Busiek, featuring a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and her hatchlings.
