The obverse features a traditional Native American man along with the phrase "LIBERTY" and the year of mintage.

The reverse displays the famous Buffalo design inspired by the Black Diamond that lived in New York's Central Park Zoo. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination.
