1999 1 oz Canadian Polar Bear $50 Platinum Coin
The 1999 Canadian Platinum Polar Bear was produced by the Royal Canadian Mint and contains 1 oz. of .9999 pure platinum.
The coin's obverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Canadian Dora de Pédery-Hunt. This obverse design was created in 1990 when the queen was 64 years old. Her name is engraved at the bottom of the coin along with, the year, country, weight, and metal type.
On the coin's reverse is the image of the polar bear walking across the icy tundra. Less than 30,000 of these animals exist in the world, with one of the largest populations residing in Canada. The denomination is etched on the top part of the coin.
