The American Platinum Eagle is the official platinum bullion coin of the United States. The obverse (front) was designed by U.S. Mint chief engraver John Mercanti and features the strong face of the Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom. The reverse (back) was designed by U.S. Mint sculptor Thomas D. Rogers and features a soaring American eagle with outstretched wings.
