The reverse, designed by Dean McMullen and Thomas D. Rogers, Sr., displays James Madison's Virginia home, Montpelier. Inscriptions: “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”, “MONTPELIER”, and “ONE DOLLAR”.
