The 1988 Panda coins keep the traditional reverse design that has been the hallmark of this great series, featuring the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, the title of the People's Republic of China, and the year of issuance below (1988). The obverse design, which changes every year, features a young Panda pawing at a bamboo branch, with the denomination (50 Yuan) and purity (.999). The proof versions can be distinguished from the B.U. coins by a small P located between the bamboo leaves on the right side of the coin.
