1987 12 oz Chinese Gold Proof Panda 1000 Yuan Coin NGC PF 67 Ultra Cameo - Rare!
This beautifully designed 1987 proof gold 1000 Yuan Panda is composed of 12 oz. of .999 pure gold, graded by NGC as a proof 67, a sharp, attractive, nearly perfect strike and with few to no blemishes. This is a great piece for coin or bullion collectors. The highly collectible Gold Panda series of coins began in 1982. Each size in the Gold Panda collection is .999 pure Gold. The traditional obverse design depicts the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests in the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The reverse features a seated Panda with cub.
The 1987 12 oz. gold 1000 Yuan Panda is the second gold Panda coin minted in this size. It was the second 12 oz. gold Panda released after the 1984 1000 Yuan gold coin. It was quite popular when originally issued and has a relatively high reported mintage of 4,000. A later report pegged the actual number minted at about 2,500. The 12 oz. gold Panda series has fewer date gaps than the 5 oz. series and has proved more popular with collectors. Despite this there have been periods when this coin has traded hands at prices close to its bullion value. This contributed to the reported melting of many coins. The close relationship between coin price and melt value has also discouraged grading of these coins and less than a handful have been certified.
Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safe for delivery.
