Chiang Kai-Shek was a Chinese political pioneer who served as the leader of the Republic of China from 1928-1975. Chiang was socially conservative, promoting traditional Chinese culture and vehemently dismissed nationalist democratic socialism.
Chinese migration to Taiwan began as early as the sixth century. The Dutch set up a base on the island in 1624 and held it until 1661 when they were driven out by supporters of the Ming Dynasty who utilized it as a base for their unsuccessful endeavor to uproot the ruling Manchu Dynasty of mainland China.
In the wake of being invaded by Manchu powers in 1683, Taiwan stayed under the suzerainty of Fukien (Fujian) until built up as a different region in the period of 1885-1895.
The obverse side of this unique coin features the bust of Chiang Kai-shek encircled by his name the coin's denomination in Chinese. The reverse side features the Republic of China which includes present-day China, Taiwan, and Mongolia. Although the mintage for this exquisite coin is unknown, it is certainly noteworthy and undoubtedly rare.
This 1986 Taiwan Gold 1000 Yuan 75th Anniversary Coin is a great addition to any bullion collection, in part because of its beauty and because it honors a leader who was quite influential to Chinese history.
