Detailed Information:

One of the greatest symbols of freedom and democracy, the Statue of Liberty, stands tall on the Island of Liberty on a strong majestic pedestal. It is a captivating sight to see the huge structure of Lady Liberty. At the mouth of the Hudson River and at the entrance of the New York City Harbor is this 12 acre island. The 204 ton, 151 feet tall status is made from thin copper plates that are hammered into the wooden form. The statue has a strong steel framework. Along with the pedestal the status is 305 ft tall. The Statue of Liberty has been the first sight that welcomes people who are stepping foot to the American Land.

Lady Liberty is seen wearing a stola, a seven-rayed crown on her head, and sandals on her feet with which she is trampling a broken chain which represents freedom from tyranny and oppression. She is holding a torch in her right hand which represents the light of freedom and in her left hand she is holding a tablet which has the inscriptions JULY IV MDCCLXXVI (July 4, 1776) which is the date of the Declaration of Independence.

The copper statue was designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor, and was built by the French Engineer Gustave Eiffel who also built the Eiffel tower. The statue was dedicated on October 28, 1886. It was gift by the people of France to the USA to commemorate the friendship of the two countries that established during the American Revolution and also to commemorate the American Declaration of Independence. The pedestal is built from stone and Rosendale natural cement. The statue gets its beautiful light green color or the patina due to the natural weathering of the copper. From the pedestal to the head of Statue of Liberty there are 154 steps.

1986 was the 100th year of dedicating the Statue of Liberty and to commemorate the centennial of the Statue of Liberty, 1986 Platinum 100 Francs was released with the portrait of Statue of Liberty on the obverse and the national motto of France LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ in the form of Tree of Life on the reverse. The coin has a very limited mintage of just 9,500 coins and was minted at one of the oldest institutions in the world, the Monnaie de Paris or the French Mint. The coin is a legal tender issue of France. Each coin comes in a simple and sophisticated display box which is issued by the mint along with certificate of authentication.
