These beautiful rounds come in a beautiful wooden box. The set includes three 1984 California gold proof rounds: a 1 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1/4 oz gold coin with three Certificate of Authenticities.

This historical gold proof set continues the tradition of California Gold. Ever since 1848, when Gold was first discovered in California, the words "California Gold" have evoked visions of legendary fortunes, both won and lost, during the early prospecting days.

By 1849, hundreds of thousands of people made their way into California to strike it rich, many with little more than a tin pan and a dream. Considered the greatest find of the century, the Gold Rush grew California into a very populated area and added millions of dollars to the US economy.

California gold continues to be very popular today. An 1852 $20 California gold piece recently sold at auction for 1.35 million dollars. These historic developments along with current economic trends have renewed interest in California Gold. Collectors and Investors continue to stimulate the market, causing an increased awareness and desire to own a "Piece of History".

On the reverse is The Great Seal of the State of  California, which was adopted at the California state Constitutional Convention of  1849 and has undergone minor design changes since then, the last being the standardization of the seal in 1937. The seal features the Roman goddess Minerva, the goddess of wisdom and war; a California Grizzly Bear (the official state animal) feeding on grapevines, representing California's wine production; a sheaf of grain, representing agriculture; a miner, representing the California Gold Rush and the mining industry; and sailing ships, representing the state's economic power. The phrase "Eureka," meaning "I have found it!" is also found on the reverse, as well as the inscription "THE GREAT SEAL OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA".

On the obverse is the California grizzly bear, which was designated as the official state animal of California in 1953. Before the grizzly bear was exterminated in California, this magnificent animal thrived in the great valleys and low mountains of the state. The California grizzly bear is also honored on the California state flag. The weight, purity, and date are also found on the obverse, along with the inscription "CALIFORNIA GOLD".
