1975 Nicaragua Uncirculated/Proof Silver 5-Coin Set (w/Box & COA)
Explore an unusual collection of Central American commemorative silver with the 1975 Nicaragua Uncirculated/Proof Silver 5-Coin Set (w/Box & COA). Struck by the British Royal Mint for the Republic of Nicaragua, the set contains five .925 fine silver coins in denominations of 20 Cordobas, two 50 Cordobas, and two 100 Cordobas. Together, the coins contain approximately 2.99 troy oz of actual silver, while their designs commemorate themes ranging from peace and international cooperation to Nicaragua's relationship with the United States. The set is accompanied by its original presentation packaging and Certificate of Authenticity.
Each coin presents the Republic of Nicaragua through a different historical or symbolic theme. The 20 Cordobas issue bears the inscription “Paz y Progreso” (Peace and Progress), while one of the 50 Cordobas coins features Nicaragua's national flower, El Capullo. The second 50 Cordobas commemorates the approaching United States Bicentennial, depicting the Liberty Bell with the dates 1776–1976.
The two large 100 Cordobas pieces expand on these international themes. One pays tribute to the United States with imagery of Betsy Ross sewing an American flag and an astronaut placing the flag on the Moon. The other expresses Nicaragua's gratitude for the international assistance received following the devastating December 23, 1972 earthquake, depicting a globe surrounded by flags representing the nations and organizations that provided aid.
