1914 China S$1 CIRCLET IN RIBBON BOW XF Details

Yuan Shih-Kai (with six characters above head) appears on the obverse side of this beautiful silver coin.

On December 15, 1915, Yuan Shih-Kai had himself formally chosen and proclaimed emperor. Opposition developed within China and among various foreign powers. A rebellion broke out in Yunnan and spread to other southern provinces. The opposition was so great that Yuan rescinded the monarchy on March 21, 1916, before dying on June 6th of that year.

Note: Tiny circle in ribbon row: this is a mint mark, but it is not clear what mint it indicates.
