1914 $5 Half Eagle Indian Head Gold Coin NGC UNC Details

This beautiful 1914 Half Eagle Indian Head Gold coin is certified by NGC as Uncirculated Details - A coin that shows no wear or evidence of circulation. It is also labeled as improperly cleaned.

This 1914 $5 Indian head, quarter eagle gold dollar coin was designed by Bela Lyon Pratt, a Boston sculptor. These $5 Gold Indian head, Half Eagles were minted between 1908-1916, and 1929. This new type represents a departure from all precedents in United States coinage. Its design features no raised edge, and the main devices and legends are in sunken relief below the surface of the coin.

Among the public, there was some concern that the recessed design of Pratt's quarter eagle would collect germs - an unfounded fear. The artistry of the design was condemned loudly by some numismatists. Few people were interested in saving the coin for their collections. The result is a series with relatively few examples surviving in higher grades. Any initial disfavor has mellowed with time; today Pratt's design is recognized as part of the early 20th-century renaissance of American coinage. The coin contains .24187 troy ounces of gold and is struck in 90% fine gold.

The obverse side depicts a Native American in a headdress, with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed on it. 13 stars surround the portrait, with the date of issue (1914) below.

The reverse features a majestic bald eagle perched on a bundle of arrows and carrying an olive branch in one of its talons. The words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and "FIVE DOLLARS" are also inscribed on the reverse.

Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safely for delivery.
