The Gold French 20 Franc Rooster (0.1867 AGW) celebrates France's unofficial national symbol, the Gallic Rooster. Minted between 1898-1914, the coin was struck in .900 fine gold by the Paris Mint.
The obverse features the head of "Marianne," the symbol of France's Third Republic. On the reverse of the coin is a proud rooster, coming to symbolize the fighting spirit of the French Revolution. The coin's denomination, "20 FCS," appears at the rooster's feet, with the year at the very bottom of the coin. The phrase "LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE" encircles the rooster.
