The obverse features a portrait of a Native American with his feathered headdress, his facial details perfectly defined. Encircling the rim are thirteen stars which represent the original colonies. Inscriptions include the phrase "LIBERTY," and the year of mintage.

The reverse displays a proud American eagle, in a resting position looking forward confidently. In its talons are a bundle of arrows and an olive branch with the denomination engraved below.
