Detailed Information:

The sovereign coins minted from 1902-1910 are from the Edwardian period. King Edward the VII ascended the throne in 1901 after the death of his mother Queen Victoria. However, the sovereign coins for King Edward were not minted until 1902.

After a royal proclamation was made, the Royal Mint started minting the Edward VII gold sovereign coins from 1902. Along with the Royal Mint, these coins were also minted at the Australian branches of the Royal Mint which are the Sydney Mint, the Melbourne Mint, and the Perth Mint. The issues from each mint have their own mint marks that are “S” for Sydney, “M” for Melbourne, and “P” for Perth.

The sovereign coins minted at the Perth mint have lesser mintage compared to the Royal mint issues. These artistically designed sovereign coins are worth more than their weight in gold and they can give a tough competition to other gold Bullions like American Gold Eagles or Canadian Gold Maple Leafs.
