1900 $5 Liberty Head Half Eagle Gold Coin NGC UNC Details

This beautiful $5 Gold Liberty Head Half Eagle Coin is graded by NGC as Uncirculated Details, with the obverse scratched.

These $5 Liberty Gold Half Eagles are the Variety 2 with the motto above the Eagle and were minted between 1866-1908. The coin was designed by Christian Gobrecht, Chief Engraver of the US Mint from 1840 to 1844. The coin weighs .2419 troy ounces and is struck in 90% fine gold. It is a perfect testament to America's glorious history.

The obverse side of coin, inspired by Benjamin West's painting of Venus in Omnia Vincit Amor, contains Lady Liberty facing to the left, her loose curls cascading down her neck, and wearing a coronet with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed on it. 13 stars encircle her, with the date of the coin (1900) positioned below her profile. This paricular coin has a scratch on the obverse side.

The reverse side features a bald eagle, wings outstretched with a shield across its chest, carrying an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in each of its talons, and is still considered one of the most fascinating eagles ever to grace any U.S. coin. The coin is inscribed with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "FIVE D."

Because of its convenient size and denomination, the $5 Liberty was instantly popular and became one of the most circulated coins in U.S. history.

Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safe for delivery.
