The Metalor Group, formerly Métaux Précieux SA Metalor, was founded in 1852 in Le Locle, Switzerland, as a supplier of gold elements to local watch-making businesses. The refinery merged in 1864 with a local bank, expanding its services to provide bullion for the banking industry. The company did not officially obtain the name Métaux Précieux SA Metalor until it was acquired by the Swiss Bank Corporation in 1918. In 2016, Métaux Précieux SA Metalor was acquired by Japan's Tanaka Kikinzoku Group, a precious metals manufacturer based in Tokyo. This sale, which formed the current Metalor Group, has since expanded the reach of Metalor and its subsidiaries all around the globe. Throughout its history, Metalor has continued to be one of the world’s major suppliers of precious metals products. Metalor also remains the creator of a large variety of alloys for the watch and jewelry industry.
