The obverse of this US Mint WWII silver medal displays a flying American Bald Eagle clutching an olive branch. This is a famous US symbol of peace, inspired by the 1945 rendition of the US National Seal. 

The reverse of the silver commemorative medal reflects the sun element from the 1945 WWII Victory Medal of 1945. Inspired by this previous design, the US Mint took the sun from that medal and it has, 75 years later, risen to high noon to shine over olive branches.
