1990 Great Britain Gold £5 Proof Queen Mother NGC PF 68 UCAM
This coin was issued by the Royal Mint to commemorate the 90th birthday of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, the Queen Mother. As the mother of Queen Elizaberh II, she remained in the public eye for decades, and was always a very popular figure for Britons.
Traditionally crowns had a face value of 25p (or 5 shillings prior to decimalisation in February 1971). In 1990 the face value was increased to £5 to give the coin a value consistent with its weight and size in relation to those of the then current range of coins.
Each crown issue is authorised by Royal Proclamation in accordance with the requirements laid down by the Coinage Act 1971. This means that in common with other coins in general circulation, a crown has legal tender status.
Reverse: Portrait of Her Majesty the Queen with the inscription ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F D FIVE POUNDS.
Obverse: Above the coin a royal crown flanked by a rose and a thistle all within the inscription QUEEN ELIZABETH THE QUEEN MOTHER and the dates 1900-1990.
Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic. Item will be wrapped and packaged safe for delivery.
