1895 $10 Liberty Head Gold Eagle Coin NGC UNC DETAILS
These $10 Liberty Gold Eagles were minted between 1866-1907. The coin was designed by Christian Gobrecht, Chief Engraver of the US Mint from 1840 to 1844. The coin weighs .4838 troy ounce and is struck in 90% fine gold. It is a perfect testament to America's glorious history. The Liberty Eagle inherited its design from two popular sources. The obverse, inspired by Benjamin West's painting of Venus in Omnia Vincit Amor, was patterned after the popular 1816 Coronet-type Large Cent and contains Lady Liberty facing to the left, her loose curls cascading down her neck, and wearing a coronet with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed on it. 13 stars encircle her, with the date of the coin positioned below her profile. The reverse side features a bald eagle, wings outstretched with a shield across its chest, carrying an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in each of its talons is still considered one of the most fascinating eagles ever to grace any U.S. coin. Because of its convenient size and denomination, the $10 Liberty was instantly popular and became one of the most circulated coins in U.S. history. They were hoarded during the Civil War, when it took $25 in paper "greenbacks" to buy just one $10 Liberty. The coin is inscribed with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "TEN D." Like all of our other gold coins, this one is guaranteed to be 100% authentic.
