This Liberty Head No Motto $10 Eagle was minted between the years 1838-1866, and is a perfect testament to America's glorious history. Coinage authority, including weights and fineness, of the eagle is specified by the Act of April 18, 1792. There are a few varieties among the early dates, caused by changes in the number of stars and style of eagle, by overdates, by differences in size of figures in the dates. In 1838, the weight and diameter of the eagle were reduced and the obverse and reverse were redesigned. Liberty now faces left and the word LIBERTY is placed on the coronet. A more natural-appearing eagle is used on the reverse, and the value "TEN D.," is shown for the first time.
Designed by the U.S. Mint chief engraver Christian Gobrecht, the Eagles’ obverse was inspired by Benjamin West’s famous painting of Venus, Omnia Vincit Amor (“Love Conquers All”), and it depicts a left-facing bust of Lady Liberty, her loose curls cascading down her neck, and wearing a coronet inscribed “LIBERTY”. 13 stars encircle her, with the date of the coin positioned below her profile. The reverse features the majestic American eagle, holding arrows and an olive branch in its talons with a shield across its breast, with the inscription “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” around it, and "TEN D." Liberty Head Eagles were minted in two variations from 1839 through 1907 in Philadelphia (without a mintmark), San Francisco (“S”), Carson City, Nevada (“CC”), New Orleans (“O”), and Denver (“D”).
